MEET THE SPEAKERS

Joo Hymn

AWARE is the leading women’s rights and gender equality group in Singapore. AWARE believes in the rights of women and men to make informed and responsible choices about their lives and to have equal opportunities in education, marriage and employment, and in the right of women to control their own bodies, particularly with regard to sexual and reproductive rights. AWARE is a not-for-profit organisation.

Vanessa Ng

Co-Founder at Up and Out

Having gone through the local sex-education curriculum, Vanessa understands how inadequate it is in preparing youths for relationships (romantic, platonic, hierarchical etc) in real life. She has first hand experience with bad communication, awkward relationship fails, and she has heard too many stories of ignorance gone wrong. Ignorance often becomes vulnerability to emotional and physical abuse. Armed with her experience at startups in New York City and Singapore, Vanessa co-founded UpandOut as she believes that community movements are critical for progress.

Vivian Ngiam

Co-Founder at Up and Out

Vivian is a multi-disciplinary creative, entrepreneur and advocate passionate about making a social impact through empathic design. Her personal belief - the world would be a better place with more empathy. Besides being a designer who codes, she's also a singer-songwriter who is famous for her undying love for sushi, hammocks and sunsets. An advocate for survivors of sexual violence, mental health, and women's rights, she co-founded UpandOut to champion a push for holistic sex education and striving towards a consent culture one conversation at a time.
